Camille Blatrix provides a humorous interpretation for the "SHANG XIA carbon fiber chair," using bright colors and intricate wood inlay craftsmanship to turn the seats into cartoon-like figures, with some appearing as if they are embracing their heads with both hands and bursting into laughter, while others resemble sleeping lions under the chairs, depicting a playful "King of the Jungle" character, like a delightful game of hide and seek.

Artist Ding Yi collaboration - Carbon Fiber Furniture

NTD 2,400,000

<Limited Edition-3 pcs>

Artist Ding Yi, with his diverse artistic background, perfectly embodies in his works a combination of high mechanization, repetitiveness, and precision, while also maintaining formal experimentalism and innovation. Since the late 1980s, he has been creating a series of works using the "cross" motif, with intriguing interpretations of repeated "+" or "x" symbols. In collaboration with SHANG XIA, the "DaTienDi Series," a joint venture featuring carbon fiber furniture, reproduces Ding Yi's artwork series " Appearance of Crosses" where the enigmatic patterns of repeated symbols are explored. Drawing inspiration from traditional lacquer art's "carving and polishing" technique, the carbon fiber surface faithfully captures the emotional brushstrokes concealed within the artist's rationality, resulting in outstanding texture and powerful visual tension..

During his student years, Ding Yi was fond of abstract art. In 1988, in his creation "Appearance of Crosses 2007-10," he pioneered a unique visual language that diverged from the typical traditional styles of Chinese painting at that time. He used the cross as a formal reference point, sometimes devoid of meaning and at times associated with negation. Simultaneously, this led to the conception of combining design principles with painting principles, known as "Rational Abstraction."

Chu Teh-Chun was an artist who seamlessly merged Eastern abstract art and traditional Chinese art. His works combined the brushstrokes of abstract expressionism with the fluidity of calligraphy, while also embodying the ambiance of abstract landscapes. His paintings featured simplified forms, smooth lines, and rich color variations, creating a powerful visual impact and unparalleled tension.

He freed himself from the constraints of tangible representations and began to explore his inner potential. Drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese Daoist philosophy and freehand painting, he embarked on his own journey into abstraction. What sets his art apart is his ability to seamlessly blend Eastern and Western artistic expressions and spiritual understanding. While rooted in the tradition of abstract art, his style transcends boundaries, embracing a higher level of artistic freedom and profound depth of meaning.
